Lupine Sculpture 6
The first layer of plaster was just a cheap, low-grade decorator's type from a hardware superstore.
Title: Lupine Sculpture 7
Date: 1995
Method: Plaster
Description: The second layer of plaster was a much finer and much more expensive grade from an art supplies shop.
I'd started to notice places where I'd made some mistakes in my calculation of the thickness of the plaster needed, such as on the head, places that could now only take a very thin layer without losing proportion. But I'd expected this to be the piece on which I'd make all those kind of mistakes, this was after all my first major piece...
I'd taken a break in the work between autumn 1995 and spring 1996 when I decided to take an Access Course to go back to university. I started again the following summer with this layer but after passing the course I had a huge pile of preliminary reading for my literature degree. Unfortunately, about halfway through this layer I realised that I wouldn't have time to finish before leaving and there was no way to take it with me nor any time to work on it and my course at the same time. So this is the state in which it remains... for now.

1999, and I had the urge to drag the sheet off this piece and have another crack at it.
