Lupine Sculpture 7
The second layer of plaster was a much finer and much more expensive grade from an art supplies shop.
Title: Lupine Sculpture 8
Date: 1999
Method: Plaster
Description: 1999, and I had the urge to drag the sheet off this piece and have another crack at it.
I used the rest of the plaster I had left from three years previously and managed to take the second layer down to the ankles and tail before I ran out of time (the house is being renovated). You can probably see that the plaster is very roughly applied; the idea here is that after covering the surface with a good thick layer I can then smooth it down and carve the detail into to it. There are still a few places, such the arms, which will need extra thickening so that the musculature can be properly carved - that was the reason for the charcoal marks you can see in the pictures of the first layer.
